CHALLENGE

To promote the launch of three key new Xbox exclusive titles - Halo 5, Forza Horizon 5, and Age of Empires IV - using original creative concepts for each, as well as raise the awareness of Microsoft’s Game Pass service, all whilst also nudging new-to-brand customers to consider the Xbox Series S console (as the opposed to the X console, out-of-stock at the time).

SOLUTION

I developed a complex but achievable selection of concepts to work both as a synergistic overarching campaign to promote Xbox as a fantastic gaming platform, as well as championing and highlighting what made each game unique & exciting.

Each title had its own ‘hero’ content piece, which was housed in a flexible landing page hub on Amazon UK. This allowed us to cross-pollinated between the three games and also make each launch as engaging and relevant as possible for customers.

IMPACT

As much as the client loved the concepts (particularly Age of Empires), limited time and budgetary issues meant the campaign was ultimately simplified to a series of promotional landing pages - that said, utilising a shared structure and content for the LPs meant design and build time was quick and efficient for the designer who took over development.

Also, our Microsoft partners were so impressed with our initial proposals they promised to include us as creative partners as early as possible in the ideation process for future campaigns.

To bring to life the amazing environments available, I partnered with the Treasure Truck team to create a competition mechanic where customers could experience similar driving thrills by winning an amazing off-road driving prize. I also designed a simple yet effect interactive gallery feature for the post-giveaway, allowing users to explore the different racing stages available (shown below).

We pitched a brilliant video concept for Halo 5 (created by Neil Coxhill, EU Creative Video Director), featuring Alexa as Master Chief’s new plucky partner. I also highlighted the clever ways Alexa can be easily integrated into a customers Xbox gaming routine, to further build the campaign concept.

I developed two comedic short videos skits to lead the campaign, where the game’s tagline of “Make History Your Story” is brought to life by showing real Amazon customers truly embodying the historical characters they’re playing as. The rough scripts can be read on my writing page.
